A beautifully formed small French silver-plated dish in an elegant cartouche shape, its border finished with a fine reeded and stepped moulding, with delicate bows decorating the top and bottom corners and small cross motifs at the sides - a charming and considered decorative flourish that elevates this little piece beyond the purely functional. Petite in scale, this is an ideal resting place for a candle, rings, earrings, a watch, or the small accumulations of a well-lived day, to be appreciated in the kitchen with garlic or sweet vessels of salt and spices, or a big slice of butter for having with bread while entertaining. Equally at home on a dressing table, a bedside, a bathroom shelf, or tucked into a vignette on a desk. Stamped with two small French silver plate hallmarks to the top.
