Antique French Turned Faux Bamboo Mirror

Details
A thoroughly charming French faux bamboo mirror, its turned wood frame crafted in faithful imitation of bamboo cane, complete with knotted joints and protruding crossbar ends at each corner. Hung from an original blackened chain, it has the unassuming character of a piece that has lived well and travelled far. Equally at home in a bathroom, a hallway, a narrow wall needing that something, a bedroom corner, or as part of a layered gallery wall. The kind of mirror that suits almost every interior - from the spare and minimal to the richly collected - and looks entirely natural wherever it lands and is neutral in tone. The mirror glass is thickened and quite heavy, helping to date it as an earlier example. It is in very good condition for its age.

Style
Faux bamboo furniture and frames became enormously fashionable in France and across Europe from the late 19th century onward, riding the wave of Japonisme - the widespread fascination with Japanese and East Asian aesthetics that swept through French decorative arts from the 1870s. Turned wood was carved and finished to mimic the nodes and segments of bamboo cane with remarkable fidelity, producing pieces that were both exotic in spirit and at home in the French interior.

Excellent Condition - exceptionally preserved with minimal signs of wear. Surfaces remain clean and strong, showing only the faintest trace of history.
