Sarreguemines Atelier du Revernay Oyster Plate - Five Available

$125

Details
Highly collectable French faience oyster plates with sculptural, hand-glazed detailing in warm sandy browns and caramel tones. Each plate features six deeply moulded shell wells arranged around a central crab motif, with the glaze settling beautifully into the textured relief. The finish carries the earthy, tactile quality of mid-century French ceramics. The sculpted shells and central crab motif give these plates a collected, seaside elegance that suits both display and use. Made in France in the 1950's at Atelier du Revernay, where artists created designs for Sarreguemines, these plates are now highly collectible. Weighty, expressive and handmade. Hang on the wall, display on a flat surface, or scatter with oysters or crudités. Place a lemon in the crab at the centre or a small vessel for a mignonette to drizzle on your oysters. The maker’s mark is on the underside.

Listing is for one plate with 5 available.

Style
Sarreguemines is a historic French pottery house founded in the late 18th century in northeastern France. Known for its high quality faience and later majolica, the studio became celebrated throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries for its richly moulded tableware, decorative ceramics and innovative glazing techniques. By the mid 20th century, Sarreguemines had become one of France’s most influential ceramic producers, supplying both everyday wares and collectible artistic pieces that remain highly sought after today.

Provenance
France, mid-20th Century

Condition
Lovely Condition - Gently aged with minor imperfections consistent with age and use. Retains full structural integrity and grace - a beautiful balance between preservation and patina. The surface may show delicate age lines and minuscule hairlines typical of mid-century faience, only visible upon close study and does not impact the integrity or look of the pieces. These plates have travelled all over the world and lived many lives, they are in very good condition for their age.

A Note on Character & Age

Each vintage and antique piece in our collection carries its own history - a quiet record of time, craftsmanship, and use. These are not new items; their gentle imperfections, subtle marks, and rich patina are part of what make them unique and beautiful.

We see these characteristics not as flaws, but as evidence of a life well-lived - the depth and texture that only age can bestow. Minor variations from the images may occur, reflecting each piece’s singular story. Unless otherwise stated, all sales are final.
